When you feel the need for vehicular mayhem with a touch of human slaughter, the Carmageddon series is where it is at. What could be better than taking hopped up death mobiles out for a cruise in search of poor unsuspecting pedestrians? The Carmageddon series puts you in the midst of insane car races with vehicles designed to slice and dice human flesh while barreling through city streets and open highways. This game series offers some very creative "Power Ups" that allow you torture pedestrians in fun and addictive ways while you race. In fact, if just wasting pedestrians is all you want to do, go for it! This is because you can actually finish a race three different ways; by going through all checkpoints, destroying all opponents, or killing every pedestrian in the level. Too cool :-)

The gore of this series is rather explosive and has plenty of bloody goodness to go around, but is far from realistic. When you take your car and plow it into some poor unsuspecting by stander, you are rewarded with a shower of bloody limbs. The gore is more plentiful than similar games like the Grand Theft Auto series, but is not very detailed and the dismemberment is pretty basic. However, for its time this game series has an unprecedented physics system and was extremely controversial. In fact, the first Carmageddon was heavily censored in many countries. Carmageddon 2 is generally considered to be the most valued title of the series due to having fully 3D modeled pedestrians, an awesome vehicle damage/repair system, a great variety of cars/levels, and the most enjoyable physics/gameplay.

Unfortunately, Carmageddon 3 wasn't made by the original developers and most Carmageddon fans agree that the gamplay is rather frustrating and lacking when compared to the first two titles in the series. However, all games in the Carmageddon series feature rather enjoyable vehicular manslaughter. Since few driving/racing titles actually intertwine splattering pedestrians as part of the gameplay and points system, the Carmageddon series is a real treat for motorheads and gore lovers alike. Also, rumor has it that Stainless Games is in development of a new Carmageddon deemed to be titled "Carmageddon: Reincarnation" set for release in late 2013.

If you only play one game from this series, go find yourself a copy of Carmageddon 2 and let the vehicular manslaughter commence. If you are looking for a more recent title that is similar to the Carmageddon series with a bit more detailed gore, you might want to take a look at Clutch also.
